Gift exchanges reward something small, recognisable, and not another candle. A Face Swap or Style Swap card of a colleague (with their permission, and kept kind) does that job: it looks like them, it is funny for the right reasons, and it fits in an envelope. On Ottermagic you upload a clear photo, try Action Figure, Bobblehead, Tarot Card, or Caricature, preview until it feels like a toast rather than a roast, then take the e-card for a remote team or print a UK A5 for an in-person Secret Santa. Start at Ottermagic.com.
This is the exchange-gift card. Stocking fillers and family Secret Santa sit in Secret Santa and stocking filler personalised cards. Office Christmas packs are a different workflow: corporate Christmas card packs. Work-card manners for people you still have to email in January live in teacher, colleague and boss Christmas cards.
White elephant and Yankee Swap (US)
White elephant and Yankee Swap are the same family of party game: people bring a wrapped gift, then steal, swap, and groan. The winning object is usually cheap, specific, and easy to unwrap in a living room. A Face Swap card plus a packet of biscuits, or a Style Swap poster of the host (again, with a yes), is an easy contribution.
Lead with the e-card. After you pay, you get a hi-res, watermark-free download. Print it at home, slide it into a second-hand frame, or show the image on your phone as you hand over something edible. Remote teams can drop the file into Slack the night of the call. If the party is about three weeks out, the US shop (prices in dollars) can send a printed A5 by airmail to a US address instead, in around 2–3 weeks, untracked. How to send that download is in how to share an Ottermagic e-card.
Looks that read as a gag without needing a speech:
- Action Figure for the person whose job already looks like a movie poster
- Bobblehead for someone who will put it next to their monitor
- Tarot Card for the colleague with a well-known office fate ("you will attend another meeting")
- Caricature only if their face already takes a joke, and the preview still looks like them rather than a stranger
- Photobooth and Clay 3D when you have a decent party photo of them
- Royal Portrait if they chair the group chat
Spend limits are set by your party, not by this page. Buy whatever fits the number you already agreed. Ottermagic does not publish a "white elephant budget".
Permission is the whole game. Use a photo they have already shared, the team page, or a picture they send you after you ask. Do not scrape a tagged night-out photo they hate. If they wince at the preview, pick another style or skip the likeness and use Text Swap for a named joke on the front.
Office Secret Santa (UK)
UK offices still call it Secret Santa. The printed A5 is the object you can wrap: 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, printed to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail in around 3–5 working days, recyclable stock, water-based inks. Blank inside so you can write "It was me. Sorry about the Bobblehead." Or a printed message if your handwriting would give you away.
Leave enough working days. Use Christmas posting deadlines and how late to order. If the party is sooner than post, take the e-card and print it locally.
Style Swap restyles a photo of them at a desk, in a Christmas jumper, or at last year's lunch. Face Swap puts their face into a finished scene; Lucky Leprechaun is the named costume-style example, and plenty of other live templates work the same way. Pet Swap is for the colleague whose dog has a better social life than the rest of the team.
Posters and canvas from the same artwork are available if your exchange allows a slightly larger object. Check Ottermagic.com for live wall-art details. Do not surprise someone with a huge Caricature of themselves on a wall they cannot take down.
UK shop checkout is in pounds. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day).
Rules of thumb for keeping office humour friendly
The styles are silly. The caption should not do extra damage.
- Joke about the job, a shared disaster, or a known hobby, not about bodies, dating lives, or the thing they are sensitive about
- If you would not say it in a meeting with HR in the room, do not typeset it
- One person on the card, unless you have a group photo and you are using Style Swap on a crowd that already consented to being photographed
- Face Swap with several faces only when the live design asks for it; otherwise crop. See couple and family Face Swap
- Managers: be gentler than the intern. Power plus Caricature is a bad mix
- Remote teams: send the e-card, and maybe a small thing in the post you already know they like

Photo that will survive a swap
A clear, face-on phone photo beats a zoom screenshot. Eyes open, no party-hat brim covering the forehead, original file. Team-site headshots can work if they are recent. A photo of someone presenting, shot from the back of a conference hall, will not.
Ask. "Can I use your picture for a silly Secret Santa card?" is a one-line message. If they say no, Text Swap their name onto a designed front, or buy them chocolate.
Remote teams and the e-card
The e-card is the exchange gift that still arrives when half the team is in another city. One person generates the Face Swap, downloads the file, and posts it in the video call. You can still post a printed A5 to whoever is in the UK and wanted paper. You do not need a group-signing tool; one image is enough.
Ready when you are
Bring a gift that looks like them, and keep it kind. Upload a photo they are happy for you to use, try Action Figure, Bobblehead, Tarot Card, or a gentler Style Swap, and believe the preview. US exchanges can send the e-card the same day. UK Secret Santa can wrap a printed A5 330gsm gloss card with an envelope. Start at Ottermagic.com.
FAQ
Is a Face Swap card a good white elephant gift?
It can be, if they like being on a card and the joke is affectionate. Pair the e-card print-out with something they can actually use, or put it in a cheap frame. Ask before you use their face.
What is a Yankee Swap funny gift that is not junk?
Something personal that still unwraps well in a room. A Style Swap or Face Swap of a willing friend, plus snacks, is easier to steal and easier to keep than a novelty mug you found in a garage.
Can I make a funny Secret Santa card from a photo in the UK?
Yes. Preview on Ottermagic, then order the printed A5 for the party, or take the e-card if you have run out of working days.
How do I keep a coworker gag gift from going wrong?
Permission, a kind preview, no private jokes about things they did not choose. If the first generate looks mean, change the style. Text Swap exists if a likeness is a bad idea.
