If you want a small Christmas thank-you for the people who make the street, the hallway, or the afternoon walk easier, Ottermagic is a kind way to make it from a photo. Upload a picture of your household or your pet, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, preview until it feels neighbourly rather than nosy, then print an A5 or take the e-card. People who take in a parcel, sit with someone you love, or walk the dog in the rain already know your door. A card that looks like that door, or that dog, is a clear season’s greeting. Start at Ottermagic.com.

This is not the round of posties, delivery drivers, and bin crews. That piece is thank-you cards for posties and bin collectors. Do not copy gift rules from one job onto another. If you are adding biscuits or a tip, that is between you and their employer or agency. The card is the part Ottermagic can help with.

Keep it theirs, and keep it light

You may only know a first name, or the dog’s name, or that they live in the flat with the wreath. That is enough.

Neighbours. A Style Swap of your front door, your kids (if they are happy to be on a card that will sit in someone else’s hall), or the cat in the window. Photobooth and Cartoon feel like the street. Sketch and Watercolour feel a bit more considered if you are not close yet.

Carers. A quiet card. Watercolour, Sketch, or Classic Cartoon. Face Swap into a costume scene is usually the wrong energy unless you know them socially as well. Use a photo of the person they support only if that household wants it shared. A Pet Swap of the dog they have met every week can be safer than a portrait of a client.

Dog walkers (and similar: cat sitters, the person who feeds the rabbits). Pet Swap is the obvious front. A clear photo of the animal, face and ears in frame. Clay 3D, Brick, Cartoon, or Photobooth if they already send you snaps from the park. Royal Portrait of the dog is a gentle joke. Caricature of the walker is not, unless they asked.

Text Swap covers “Thank you from number 14” when you have no picture you want on the front. If you have a pet photo, use Pet Swap.

Live styles: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun. Most of the novelty looks belong to friends. Preview as if it will sit by their kettle.

What to photograph

Good:

  • The dog sitting, daylight, looking at the camera
  • The house or door, without a key safe or an open hallway full of bikes
  • A family on the step, if everyone in the frame is willing
  • The cat who is the local celebrity

Skip:

  • A candid of the carer or walker taken through a window
  • Doorbell video
  • Other people’s children in the background of a street photo
  • Medical equipment or a care notes folder in shot

You are thanking them with your household. You are not putting their face on a product without a conversation.

Teacher and childminder thank-yous at the end of term are a different occasion: teacher, nursery, childminder and nanny cards. NHS and healthcare thank-yous: NHS nurse and doctor thank-you cards. Use those when the relationship is a school or a ward, not a neighbour on your landing.

What to write

Short is plenty.

Neighbours: “Happy Christmas from 14b. Thank you for the parcels.”
Dog walker: “From [dog’s name]. Thank you for the wet walks.”
Carer: “Thank you for everything this year. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas.”

Leave the inside blank if you would rather write it after the card arrives, or print a short line at checkout. You do not need their full official title. You do not need to mention money.

Printed Ottermagic cards: A5 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, blank inside or printed message, printed to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail to UK addresses in around 3–5 working days or sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks, recyclable stock and water-based inks.

For a neighbour, you may be posting through their door yourself. Order to your own address, then walk it across. For a dog walker, handing it over at the end of a walk is usually easier than guessing a postal address. For a carer, follow however that household already passes on cards (the family, not a public social post).

The e-card is useful when you left it late, or when you want a copy for a second person who covers the same round. Hi-res, watermark-free after payment. See how to send an Ottermagic e-card.

US readers can have the same A5 sent to their own address by airmail from the US shop, allowing around 2–3 weeks, then hand it over. If that is too slow, use the e-card and print a copy.

Posters and canvas exist if you are the sort of household that would hang the dog portrait anyway. Check Ottermagic.com. Do not assume a carer wants a canvas.

Timing for posted greetings: how late can I order personalised Christmas cards UK 2026. Checkout is in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day).

Ready when you are

Say thank you with a picture they will recognise. Upload a photo of your people or your pet on Ottermagic, try Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, and keep the preview that feels like a greeting, not a surveillance still. Print an A5 (148×210mm, 330gsm gloss, envelope; around 3–5 working days in the UK, 2–3 weeks by airmail in the US), or download the e-card if you will hand it over tomorrow. Start at Ottermagic.com. FAQ

Can I Face Swap my dog walker?

Only with a photo they are happy to see printed. The safer card is Pet Swap of the dog they already photograph for you.

Is a card an acceptable thank-you if they cannot take gifts?

A card is a greeting. Whether they can accept food, vouchers, or cash is their employer’s or agency’s business. If you are unsure, keep it to the card.

Should I post it or hand it over?

Hand it over if you will see them. Post through a neighbour’s door if that is how your street works. Use printed A5 ordered to you, or print the e-card, when you are the one delivering it.

What if I do not know their name?

“To the best dog walker / to our neighbours at number 12” is enough. Text Swap can put a short line on the front.

Can I use the same design for several neighbours?

Yes. Add more than one printed card to the basket, or send the same e-card file. Stay inside the personal licence (keep, print, gift, share; no resale). Check postage at checkout.

Is this the same as a card for the postie?

No. Different round, different photo choices. See postie, driver, and bin-collector Christmas thank-yous.
