If the print window has already gone, you can still send a Christmas card that looks like them. On Ottermagic you upload a photo, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, preview until it feels right, then take the e-card: a hi-res, watermark-free download as soon as payment goes through. That file is the last-minute path in both the UK and the US. You can attach it to a message the same day, print it at home, or show it on a phone when you walk in. Start at Ottermagic.com.
This page is about the digital route when time is short. How late a printed card can still work in the UK, including Royal Mail's own calendars, sits in Christmas posting deadlines for personalised cards. What an e-card file actually is, any month, sits in digital download greeting cards UK and US. Check Royal Mail, check USPS if you are posting something yourself, and check the estimate at Ottermagic checkout.
When "last minute" really means the e-card
UK printed Ottermagic cards are made to order and usually arrive within around 3–5 working days, posted with Royal Mail to UK addresses. Dispatch is within one working day, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Dates are estimates. Bank holidays and Christmas can add a day or two. Standard post is untracked.
In the US, printed cards are the same A5, printed to order in the UK and sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks. For Christmas, that means ordering about three weeks ahead.
If you no longer have that window, plus whatever buffer you want before they travel, take the e-card.
"Last minute" is also the honest choice when they have already left for a second house, when you only got the group photo tonight, or when you remembered the neighbour at 9pm on the 23rd.
An e-card is not a lesser feeling if the picture is personal and you write a real sentence with it. Rude is a blank forward with no words.
What you actually get
The storefront option is labelled E-card. After you pay, it appears on the confirmation page as a hi-res file, without the preview watermark. You can come back to it from your order. Send it however you like.
Typical last-minute uses:
- attach to an email or a WhatsApp on Christmas Eve
- drop it into Messages or iMessage
- print at home on whatever card stock you have left
- take a USB or a phone file to a late-opening print shop
- show the image on a screen when you arrive, then leave a printed copy later if you still want paper
Confirm the exact file behaviour on the confirmation screen.
The likeness is the same artwork you would have printed. Brick, Chibi, Anime, Photobooth, Watercolour, Clay 3D, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Sketch, Royal Portrait, and the rest of the live list all export this way.
Live styles: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.
How to make one tonight
- Pick a clear, well-lit photo. Phone photos are fine. Facing the camera. For pets, get the whole animal in.
- On Ottermagic, pick a design. Guests can preview without an account. You sign in at checkout.
- Wait about a minute. Zoom the watermarked preview. Try another photo or style if the eyes are wrong.
- Pay. Download the e-card from the confirmation page.
- Write one true line in the message that carries the file. Then send it.
You must be 18 or over to order. Checkout is in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop. Support replies at support@ottermagic.com within one working day.
Parents or guardians should upload children's photos, or have permission.
If you have no photo at all, Text Swap can still put a name or greeting on a designed front. If a photo exists, use it. Last-minute is not an excuse for a clip-art robin if the camera roll has their face.

UK: print if you still can, digital if you cannot
Work backwards from the day you want an envelope in their hands. Add Ottermagic's around 3–5 working days. Then open Royal Mail's current Christmas last-posting page for the service you would have used, because Ottermagic's standard post is Royal Mail and untracked.
If that sum no longer reaches 25 December, or they leave on the 22nd, stop doing arithmetic and download the e-card.
You can still order a printed A5 for a UK address and send the e-card tonight, if you want paper to follow. That is two formats of the same art, not a trick. Posters and canvas are available too; they are still made to order, so they are rarely the last-minute object. Check Ottermagic.com for wall-art options.
A New Year note is allowed. People understand delayed post. "Happy Christmas, even if this is now a January hug" is a real sentence.
US: print with three weeks to spare, the file after that
If Christmas is still about three weeks away, order the printed A5 and let the airmail envelope do the travelling. Closer than that, generate on Ottermagic, download the e-card, then:
- send digitally, or
- print locally and post with USPS, using USPS's published holiday dates, or
- print and hand it over in person

Ready when you are
Send a Christmas card today that still looks like your people. Upload a photo on Ottermagic, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, and download the e-card as soon as you pay. If a UK letterbox still has around 3–5 working days, or a US one about three weeks, you can print instead; check Royal Mail and the live checkout estimate rather than a date copied from an article. Start at Ottermagic.com. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day).
FAQ
Is it too late to send Christmas cards in 2026?
For a posted UK Ottermagic A5, it is too late when you no longer have about 3–5 working days plus Royal Mail's live last posting dates. For a printed card to a US address, it is too late once you have less than about three weeks. After either point, send the e-card.
How fast is the Ottermagic e-card?
The FAQ and delivery page say it is ready the moment payment goes through, on the confirmation page.
Can I print a last-minute e-card at home?
Yes. It is a hi-res, watermark-free download. Use whatever paper you have. It will not be the same object as the 330gsm A5 with envelope, and it will still be their face.
Will an e-card look cheap?
It looks as good as the preview you approved, without the watermark. Cheap is a generic jpeg with no sentence. Put one true line with the file.
Do I need an account to make one tonight?
Not to preview. You sign in at checkout, with Google or an email address.
