If you want a card that looks like the person who stood in the rain with a whistle, or like the runner who just got a medal, Ottermagic is a straightforward way to make it. Upload a photo from the touchline, the pack meeting, sports day, or the finish funnel, run Style Swap or Face Swap, preview until it feels proud rather than sarcastic, then order a printed A5 (148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included; Royal Mail around 3–5 working days to UK addresses, airmail around 2–3 weeks to US addresses) or an e-card, which is a hi-res, watermark-free download. This is a family card. Ottermagic is not affiliated with Race for Life, Scouts, schools, or any running event. Check those organisations for official kit and fundraising. For the portrait, start at Ottermagic.com.

US readers: the US shop sends the same printed A5 by airmail to US addresses, so allow around 2–3 weeks. For a race or an end-of-season do sooner than that, use the e-card and print or send the file locally.

What these occasions actually need

A coach thank-you, a scout leader leaving do, sports day, a first marathon, or a charity 5k are noisy days. People already have a phone full of blurry action shots. A card still helps because it is slower. It says the season happened, and you saw them in it.

Style Swap restyles a still photo into Brick, Clay 3D, Action Figure, Sketch, Watercolour, Cartoon, and the rest. Good when you have a decent face.

Face Swap drops them into a finished scene. Good when a “champion” template matches how they felt at the line, and you are not punching down.

Pet Swap is surprisingly common: the dog who ran every training kilometre, the pack mascot. Text Swap covers a name on the front when every photo is a back-of-head in a crowd.

Live styles: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.

Coaches and team helpers

Grassroots football, netball, swimming, rugby, gymnastics: the volunteer who remembered the kit bag. A Style Swap in Sketch or Action Figure is usually enough. Caricature can feel mean after a season of 7–1 defeats. Know the person.

Use a photo where you can see their face, not only a distant figure in a bib. Sideline shots at dusk are often unusable. Ask for one clear picture, or crop a presentation evening portrait.

Write inside about a specific Saturday, not “thanks for being a legend.” If several families want to sign, order printed A5 with a blank inside and pass it at training. Ottermagic does not run a shared signing link.

Scout and guiding leaders (and similar groups)

Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer, Girlguiding units, cadets: same pattern. The leader has seen a lot of damp tents. A loud Face Swap gag may land at a campfire and fall flat in a more formal thank-you from parents. Watercolour, Sketch, Royal Portrait, or a restrained Cartoon are safe first tries.

Do not dress someone as an official uniform joke unless they would laugh. You are not making licensed merchandise. You are making a card from a photo.

Sports day

Sports day cards go to children, to the parent who organised the sponge relay, and sometimes to the PE lead. For a child, Chibi, Cartoon, Pixel Art, or Brick can feel like a medal of their own. For an adult organiser, stay a little calmer.

Photos from sports day are often back-lit and chaotic. Take three stills facing the camera after the race, even if the “real” memory is the sprint. Face Swap needs eyes and a full face.

If the egg-and-spoon is tomorrow morning, use the e-card. Printed A5 has no same-day courier.

Marathon, half marathon, 10k, first 5k

Finish-line photos can be wonderful and still be bad Face Swap inputs: eyes half shut, medal glare, a stranger’s elbow. Pick a training portrait, or a photo from the pub afterwards where they look like themselves.

Action Figure, Retro Halftone, Photobooth, and Clay 3D suit the “I actually did this” feeling. Sketch suits a quieter person who would rather not be a superhero on the fridge.

US friends and family: order the printed A5 around three weeks before a Boston or Chicago weekend if you want it waiting at home. Closer than that, download the e-card and print it near you, or send the image.

Race for Life and other charity runs

People run Race for Life, Santa dashes, parkrun PBs, school PTA fun runs. A personalised card can sit next to a fundraising page. It is a family object, not an official product.

Ottermagic does not partner with Race for Life. If you want money to go to the cause, donate through the event’s own page and let the card be the hug.

Tone: supportive. Avoid gags about illness unless you are certain. Style Swap in Watercolour or Sketch is often the right register for a card that mentions why someone ran. Photobooth can work for a loud team in pink who already posted fifty selfies.

Write inside with the runner’s name and the day. You do not need a slogan copied from a campaign.

Photo habits from a season of bad light

  • After the match, take one posed shot. It feels uncool and prints better.
  • Avoid peaked caps that hide eyes, unless the cap is the joke and you accept a harder swap.
  • For kids, shoot immediately after the race while they will still look at you.
  • Pets in hi-vis: whole animal in frame for Pet Swap.

If the first preview looks like a stranger in a bib, change the photo.

Ready when you are

Give them a card that looks like the season they just had. Upload a clear face, try Action Figure, Sketch, Clay 3D or Watercolour, and keep the kind preview. Print an A5 (148×210mm, 330gsm gloss, envelope; around 3–5 working days in the UK, 2–3 weeks by airmail in the US), send an e-card when post will miss, or look at posters and canvas. FAQ

Can I make a Race for Life card on Ottermagic?

You can make a personalised card from a photo of the person who ran. That is not official Race for Life merchandise and not a charity partnership. Use the event’s own channels for fundraising.

What style works for a football coach thank-you?

There is no single best. Sketch and Action Figure are sensible starts. Match their humour. Avoid a Face Swap scene that mocks a bad season unless they started the joke.

Will a printed card arrive before sports day?

Only if you have around 3–5 working days for a UK address, or around 2–3 weeks for a US one. Otherwise use the e-card and print it at home or on the school’s colour printer if they allow it.

Can the whole team sign?

Pass a printed A5 around, or print the e-card file. Ottermagic does not offer a group-signing website. Digital group cards are a different product.

I’m in the US. Can I post an Ottermagic card to a coach?

Yes. The US shop sends the printed A5 by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks. If the end-of-season do is sooner, use the e-card and print or send the file.

Can I include the club dog?

Yes, via Pet Swap, with a clear photo of the animal.
