If you want a personalised card that looks like an old-master sitting, Ottermagic’s live look for that job is Royal Portrait. Upload a clear photo, run Style Swap (or Pet Swap if the subject is the dog), preview until the pomp still looks like them, then order a printed A5 card or take the e-card. Printed cards are 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, made to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail to UK addresses in around 3–5 working days or sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks. The e-card is a hi-res, watermark-free download after payment.
People type renaissance, regal pet, royal dog portrait, and king and queen card. Those searches point at the same shelf. Ottermagic does not sell a separate product named Renaissance. Royal Portrait is the court-painting style: ceremonial dress, a gilded mood, the household taking itself slightly seriously. Sketch and Watercolour sit nearby if you want the painted feeling without the crown. Start at Ottermagic.com.
A Christmas-only take on the quieter trio is Watercolour, Sketch and Royal Portrait Christmas cards. This page is the royal and pet version for birthdays, thank-yous, and “this is how we see you.”
What Royal Portrait actually does
Style Swap redraws your photo as that look. It is not a sticker of a crown dropped on a snapshot. Clothes pick up a courtly register. Lighting goes warm and shadowed. The face should still be the person you uploaded.
That is why the photo matters. Mid-chew on the sofa will fight the style. Sit them up, face the camera, leave a little space around the head. Hoodies are allowed; the joke is part of the gift. A picture that already has a bit of posture will feel sincere rather than sarcastic.
Face Swap is a different tool: their face into a finished scene. Use it when the scene is the gag and you still want their likeness. Lucky Leprechaun is the named Face Swap example on the live list. For a renaissance mood, Style Swap into Royal Portrait is usually the cleaner path.
Pet Swap puts the animal in as the star. A clear, whole-body or whole-head shot of the dog, cat, or whoever runs the house. You can also Style Swap a pet photo in Royal Portrait if you want the painterly version of the real frame rather than a scene template.
Text Swap can put a name on a designed front if you have no photo. If you have the spaniel, use the spaniel.
Live styles (the rest of the shop, for when pomp is too much): Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.
Renaissance, regal, court painting: how the searches map
Shoppers do not owe us our SKU names. Here is how those phrases usually land.
| You searched for… | Try first on Ottermagic |
|---|---|
| Royal Portrait / royal painting card | Style Swap → Royal Portrait |
| Renaissance portrait card | Royal Portrait; then Sketch or Watercolour if the crown feels loud |
| Regal pet / royal dog / king cat | Pet Swap, or Style Swap of the pet photo in Royal Portrait |
| Queen Mum / birthday monarch joke | Royal Portrait of them; preview so it stays fond |
| Old master couple | One clear photo of both faces, similar in size, then Royal Portrait |
Caricature can lean on a feature they are tired of. If you wince in the preview, switch to Sketch. Bobblehead is a different joke.
Photos that suit a court portrait
Daylight helps. Face toward the camera. Eyes visible. Glasses are usually fine. Hats that hide eyebrows are not.
Couples: both faces large and roughly the same size. If one person is a background blur at a gig, take another frame. Groups: Royal Portrait wants readable faces. A long table of twelve tiny heads will not become a museum picture.
Pets: the whole animal in, or a true head-and-shoulders with both eyes. A wet nose filling the lens looks odd under a velvet treatment. Dark fur needs a window, not a hallway bulb.
If the first preview feels like a neighbour, change the photo before you change styles. More on input: how to choose a photo.
When a regal pet card is the right object
Some households will keep a portrait of the dog longer than they will keep a “best mum” slogan. That is allowed. Birthdays, gotcha days, a thank-you to the person who dog-sits, a gentle reminder of a cat who still rules the radiator: Pet Swap plus a courtly look covers those without pretending the animal filled in a form.
Keep it kind. A crown on a rescue greyhound can be affectionate. A mean exaggeration of a lumpy face is not. Trust the preview. If you would not stick it on the fridge, do not pay.
Pet birthday and memorial cards more broadly: pet birthday, sympathy and memorial.
Print, e-card, and wall
| Path | Use it when… | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Printed A5 | You have around 3–5 working days and a UK address, or about three weeks and a US address | 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope, blank inside or printed message, recyclable stock, water-based inks, Royal Mail (UK) or airmail (US) |
| E-card | The date is close, or they live far away | Hi-res, watermark-free download after payment |
| Poster or canvas | The portrait should live on a wall | Available; check Ottermagic.com for live sizes and fulfilment |
You pay when you like the preview. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day). Prices are in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop.
A Royal Portrait often wants to be a poster. That is a fair instinct. Order the wall format on Ottermagic if that is the gift, and add the A5 if someone still likes an envelope.
Tone: pomp that still feels like love
Royal Portrait can read as a tease or as a compliment. Match the person. Grandparents who already run the family WhatsApp often enjoy it. A teenager who hates being looked at may prefer Sketch.
Inside, you do not need mock-Tudor English. “Happy birthday. This is how the house actually sees you.” is enough. Leave it blank if you would rather write.
Ready when you are
Give them a portrait with a bit of ceremony. Upload a photo, try Royal Portrait (and Pet Swap if the subject has paws), and keep the preview that still looks like them. Print A5 330gsm gloss with an envelope (posted in the UK, or by airmail to the US), or look at posters and canvas. If you need it today, take the e-card. Start at Ottermagic.com. FAQ
Do you have a Renaissance style?
Royal Portrait is the live look that answers renaissance and court-painting searches. Sketch and Watercolour are the quieter painted options. There is no separate Renaissance SKU in this article.
Can I make a royal portrait of my dog?
Yes. Use Pet Swap, or Style Swap on a clear pet photo, and try Royal Portrait. Preview until it feels fond.
Is Royal Portrait only for birthdays?
No. Thank-yous, anniversaries, “just because,” and a pet’s gotcha day all take a courtly front. Match the inside message to the day.
Will they look like themselves, or like a stranger in a costume?
The point of Style Swap is likeness in the style. Use a sharp, face-on photo. If the preview fails, retake rather than adding more pomp.
Can I hang it?
Posters and canvas are available from the same artwork. Check Ottermagic.com for live wall-art details.
I am in the US. Can I get this posted?
Yes. The US shop sends the printed A5 by airmail to US addresses, around 2–3 weeks door to door. If you need it sooner, use the e-card.
