A July 4 card is more fun when it looks like the people at the grill, not like a stock flag with a gap for a name. On Ottermagic you upload a photo, run Style Swap or Face Swap (Pet Swap if the dog works the picnic), preview until you recognise them, then choose the format. The printed A5 (148×210mm, 330gsm gloss, envelope) is printed to order in the UK and sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks, so order about three weeks before the Fourth. The e-card is a hi-res, watermark-free download: print it nearby, stick it in a bag, or send it before the fireworks start. Start at Ottermagic.com.

Independence Day, the Fourth of July, and 4th of July are the same date in the search box. The card job is the same too: a birthday-adjacent greeting for a national holiday, a thank-you to a host, or a hello to family who are not in the same backyard.

What to put on the front

Style Swap is the easiest July 4 default. You keep the person and redraw them in a named look. Photobooth and Cartoon suit backyard groups if you crop to one or two faces. Watercolour and Sketch sit better on a table that is not covered in plastic stars. Action Figure, Retro Game, and Pixel Art fit the cousin who already talks in those references. Royal Portrait can be a dry joke for someone who takes the day seriously, or a bit much if they do.

Live styles you can try: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.

Face Swap puts them in a finished scene. Use it when they would enjoy a heroic or silly pose. Lucky Leprechaun is the named scene-style example in the live set; browse Face Swap designs for a mood that is actually about July, not about a different holiday. Do not paste a face onto a founding-father oil painting as a gag unless you are sure they collect that kind of joke. A lot of people would rather look like themselves in a baseball cap, restyled.

Pet Swap is almost designed for this weekend. Dogs in bandanas photograph badly in noon sun (squinting, blown highlights). Take the picture in shade. Include ears and eyes.

Text Swap covers “Happy 4th” and a name when the only photos are of smoke and someone’s elbow. Text-led catalogues elsewhere may have more headline templates. When a face exists, use it.

Photos from the actual day (and why they fail)

Fourth of July pictures are full of problems that have nothing to do with patriotism.

  • Backlight from a bright sky turns faces into silhouettes.
  • String lights at night look festive and hide the eyes.
  • Group shots on a picnic blanket put nobody large enough in the frame.
  • Hats and sunglasses are everywhere.

If you are making the card before the day, use a recent daylight portrait and write the holiday in the message. If you are making it from last year’s cookout, crop hard and pick the frame where someone looked at the lens. Retaking a photo in a doorway takes a minute and saves you a second generate.

Kids move. Take several shots. Chibi and Cartoon forgive a bit of chaos. Face Swap does not.

Tone: festive without turning them into a mascot

Some households want flags in the artwork. Some want a quiet note to a veteran in the family. Some want a joke. Match the person, not a Pinterest board of exploding eagles.

Caricature and Bobblehead can feel like a roast at a party where everyone is already loud. They can feel cheap if you are writing to someone who marks the day more quietly. Generate one loud look and one soft look. Keep the preview you would still send on 5 July.

You do not need the word “America” on the front. “Happy 4th” inside is enough. Use US spelling in the message (personalized, color, favorite) if that is how they write.

How to buy this in the US

PlanDo this
Three weeks or more aheadOrder the printed A5, sent by airmail to a US address in around 2–3 weeks
Sending todayPay for the e-card and message the file
Want paper on the table, and the day is closePrint the download at home or at a local shop; use heavier paper if you can
Host giftPrint one copy and write inside after it dries
Family group chatSend the image and say you did it on purpose, so it does not read as a forgotten envelope
Someone in the UKSwitch to the UK shop and order the printed A5 for their UK address (Royal Mail around 3–5 working days)

Posters and canvas exist on Ottermagic. Check the site for live wall-art details. For a US wall this weekend, use a local print of the e-card.

Checkout is in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day).

Moonpig-style catalogues and US card aisles (Hallmark and similar) are fine places to buy a flag design with no likeness, and a card printed in the US may reach a US mailbox faster than one sent by airmail. Prefer Ottermagic when the job is the photo-to-art.

Ready when you are

Get a Fourth of July card that looks like your people. Upload a photo, try Style Swap or Face Swap, and when the preview feels like them, order the printed A5 about three weeks ahead, or download the e-card and print it locally or send the file in time for the day. Start at Ottermagic.com.

FAQ

Can I get a 4th of July card posted to a US address from Ottermagic?

Yes. The printed A5 is sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks, so order about three weeks before the Fourth. Closer than that, buy the e-card and print or send it in the US.

What style works for a backyard party card?

Photobooth, Cartoon, and Classic Cartoon are easy starting points. Watercolour if the host would rather something calmer. Preview beats guessing.

Is Face Swap too cheesy for Independence Day?

It is cheesy when the scene is a costume they would not wear. It is fine when they already like that kind of picture. Style Swap is the safer first try.

Can I make a card from a fireworks photo?

Usually no. Fireworks photos hide faces. Use a portrait taken before dark, and let the fireworks stay in the message.

What if I only want text?

Use Text Swap on Ottermagic, or browse a text-led catalogue if you want more ready-made July headlines. Come back to a photo mode when you have a face.
