Get well, sympathy and retirement cards from a photo

Some cards need a quieter front than a birthday gag. If you have a photo and you want the person (or their pet) present without turning the moment into a joke they did not ask for, Ottermagic can still help. Upload a picture, choose a gentler Style Swap look such as Sketch, Watercolour, or Royal Portrait, or use Face Swap only when the scene fits, then order a UK A5 card (148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, Royal Mail around 3–5 working days) or an instant digital download. Posters and canvas are available if the artwork should stay on a wall. Preview until it feels like them, then send it. Start at Ottermagic.com.

Get well, sympathy, and retirement are different emotional jobs. The same site can cover them if you pick the mode and the style with a bit of care.

Shared mechanics, different manners

The mechanism does not change:

  1. Upload a photo (or use Text Swap if a photo would be wrong).
  2. Run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap.
  3. Preview. If it feels kind, print or download.

The manners do change. A Clay 3D party face can be perfect for retirement drinks and clumsy for a funeral. Trust the preview. If you wince, try Sketch. If you still wince, use Text Swap or a non-photo card.

Live styles (pick with the occasion, not the loudest thumbnail): Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.

Printed cards: A5 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, blank inside or printed message, printed to order in the UK and posted with Royal Mail, around 3–5 working days, recyclable stock, water-based inks. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day). Prices are in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop.

Get well

Get well cards can be warm, a bit funny, or almost plain. The photo often helps because the person is tired of being "the patient." Seeing themselves as a soft watercolour, or seeing the family dog via Pet Swap, can land better than another cartoon thermometer.

Style Swap in Sketch or Watercolour is a safe first try. Cartoon or Chibi can work if they have been making jokes from the hospital bed; do not guess that tone for them.

Pet Swap is a gift when the pet is the household's other main character. A get-well card "from" the dog is a known genre for a reason.

Face Swap into a wild scene is usually too much unless they asked for chaos. Save Lucky Leprechaun energy for birthdays.

Timing: illness does not wait for Royal Mail. If they are in hospital this week, digital download (print at home, or send the image with a message) may be kinder than a 3–5 working day wait. If they are recovering at home and you can post, the physical A5 with an envelope is a nice object to prop on a table.

Inside: short. "Thinking of you. No need to reply." Specific help ("I can do Thursday school run") beats a long paragraph about strength.

Sympathy

Sympathy is the occasion where you should be willing to skip a face altogether.

A photo of the person who died can be wanted, or it can be a shock on the doormat. If you did not know the family well, Text Swap or a simple illustration-led card (including high-street options) may be more respectful. Ottermagic still offers Text Swap; other shops may have deeper condolence catalogues. That is a fair reason to look around.

If the family has asked for photos, or you are very close, a quiet Style Swap in Sketch or Watercolour of a familiar, happy picture can be a keepsake. Avoid Caricature, Bobblehead, and party scenes. Avoid turning grief into a Face Swap gag.

Pet sympathy (a much-loved animal) is a place Pet Swap can be right, in a still, simple style. Keep the inside spare. People remember that you wrote, not that you filled the panel.

If you are unsure, do not generate twenty wild previews. Generate one gentle option. If it feels like a birthday, stop.

Postage still follows the same 3–5 working days. Digital download helps when the funeral is close. Hand-deliver if you can; the envelope still matters.

Retirement

Retirement can take a joke. It can also be tender if the job was their identity.

Style Swap in Royal Portrait, Sketch, or even Action Figure (if they would laugh) fits the "this chapter is theirs" feeling. Brick and Clay 3D work when they are the sort of person who would display something playful in the kitchen.

Face Swap can put them into a well-earned scene, if the template is affectionate rather than mocking. Know your audience. A leaving-do crowd is different from a private card to a parent.

Pet Swap appears more than you expect: the dog who now gets longer walks, the office plant that is not a pet but… use a real pet.

Two formats at once can make sense here, because retirement is a wall moment as well as a card moment: A5 to pass around the table, poster or canvas of the same artwork if they want it in the spare room. Check Ottermagic.com for live poster and canvas details.

Inside: mention the actual job, the years if you know them, and one concrete wish for the next month (sleep, allotment, grandkids, travel). Avoid "enjoy doing nothing," which some people hate.

Photo choices when the mood is careful

  • Use a photo they already like of themselves, not the least flattering recent snap.
  • Get-well: a photo from before they got ill, if they look more like themselves in it.
  • Sympathy: only with consent from your own sense of the family.
  • Retirement: a picture from work can be touching or can trap them in a uniform. A weekend photo often ages better.

Light, focus, and a visible face still apply. Kindness does not rescue a blurry upload.

Ready when you are

Pick the occasion's manners first, then the swap. Sketch, Watercolour, or a still Pet Swap will carry most of these cards. Preview until it feels like a decent human sent it. Print UK A5 330gsm gloss with an envelope, download if time is short, or take a poster or canvas when the artwork should stay. Ottermagic.com. FAQ

Can I make a sympathy card on Ottermagic?

Yes, with care. Text Swap or a very quiet Style Swap is usually safer than Face Swap. If a photo of the person who died could hurt, do not use one. Other condolence catalogues exist; use them if that is kinder.

What style is best for get well?

There is no universal best. Sketch and Watercolour are gentle starting points. Match their humour. Pet Swap is often welcome.

Will a retirement Face Swap look cheap?

It looks cheap when the scene is mean or the photo is bad. It looks like a gift when the likeness is good and the template fits how they actually are. Preview is the test.

How fast can a get well card arrive in the UK?

Printed A5 is typically around 3–5 working days with Royal Mail. For sooner, use digital download.

Can I leave the inside blank?

Yes. Blank inside or a printed message. Handwriting is often right for sympathy and get well.

Do you offer posters for a retirement portrait?

Yes, posters and canvas are available alongside cards. Check Ottermagic.com for current sizes and fulfilment. The Style Swap or Face Swap artwork is the same.
