If the card is for someone in Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, or a London postcode, you still want the front to look like them. On Ottermagic you upload a photo, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, preview until it feels like your person, then order a UK A5 card posted with Royal Mail or take the e-card (a hi-res, watermark-free download) when the date is tight. Start at Ottermagic.com.

The mechanism does not change because the recipient lives north of the wall or on the Central line. The useful details are the name they use, the photo you already have, and whether Royal Mail has enough working days.

What "local" means on a personalised card

A Scottish mum, a Welsh dad, an Irish nan, a London flatmate: the personalisation is the likeness, then the words inside.

Write the name they actually use. hen, pal, love, and mate can sit in an inside line if that is how you talk. They look forced on a banner when you never say them out loud. Same with wee, cwtch, and "from your London lot." One true phrase is enough.

If you have no photo, Text Swap can carry a name-led design. If you have a photo, use Style Swap or Face Swap. A Sketch of your actual aunt in Swansea is more local than a clip-art daffodil with no face.

St Andrew's Day, St David's Day, and St Patrick's Day have their own cards and their own mood. You can still send a Face Swap in March if you want to. Lucky Leprechaun is a live Face Swap look with a costume scene; use it when the person would laugh, not because a calendar told you to.

Posted in the UK, including the bits people forget are UK

The printed option is a folded A5 card for UK addresses: 148×210mm, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, blank inside or a printed message, printed to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail in around 3–5 working days. Recyclable stock and water-based inks.

That covers England (London included), Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. A personalised card to Edinburgh or Aberystwyth is the same print path as a card to Hackney. Count working days, not "it is only up the road."

For family in the Republic of Ireland, the e-card reaches them the moment you pay, and they can print the file at their end. For a printed card to an Irish address, email support@ottermagic.com.

Posters and canvas are available if the portrait should hang in the hall in Dundee or on a rented wall in Zone 3. Check Ottermagic.com for live wall-art details. Do not copy A5 timing onto a large print.

Checkout is in pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop. Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day).

Photos that travel well across the UK

Take the picture in daylight if you can. Kitchen downlights in a tenement, a terrace, or a new-build all carve the same shadows under the eyes. Face Swap and Style Swap would rather have a window.

London park light on a Sunday is often enough. So is a back garden in Antrim. You do not need a photographer in Soho. You need both eyes visible and a file that has not been through three group chats.

Group shots at weddings in barns, ceilidhs, and pub gardens are poor uploads. Step the person a metre away and take one dedicated frame. You are making a card, not documenting the buffet.

Pets are a legitimate local subject. Pet Swap for the collie, the lurcher, the flat cat who has never seen a garden: same rules, whole animal in frame, eyes visible.

Styles that do not lean on a costume

Style Swap is the everyday path. Sketch and Watercolour suit thank-yous and quieter birthdays. Brick, Cartoon, Photobooth, and Clay 3D suit people who already like a loud card. Royal Portrait is the joke when they already run the family WhatsApp. Anime, Chibi, Pixel Art, and Retro Game are fair if that is their taste.

Face Swap is for a finished scene. Use it when you have found a template that matches the person, not the postcode. A London birthday does not require a red bus on the front. A Welsh birthday does not require a dragon unless they would put that dragon on the fridge.

Live styles: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.

Caricature and Bobblehead can land badly with relatives who are tired of being the family joke. Preview. If you hesitate, pick Sketch.

London cards

London cards are often late. People remember on the morning of the thing. The e-card exists for that: pay, download, send the file or print it on the way to the pub. If you have the working days, the A5 with an envelope is a nicer object to leave on a shared kitchen table.

Flat shares, long commutes, and friends who moved to Manchester last year are all "London" problems that the e-card also solves. The artwork is the same as the posted card.

If you are sending into London from elsewhere in the UK, Royal Mail still needs those 3–5 working days. Do not treat a London postcode as same-day print. Ottermagic does not offer same-day posted cards.

A simple order of work

  1. Write the name they use (Nana, Mam, Dad, the nickname from school).
  2. Pick a clear photo, or the pet.
  3. Try Style Swap first, then Face Swap if you want a scene.
  4. If they are in the UK and you have time, order A5 print. If they are far away and should have it today, or the party is tomorrow, take the e-card.
  5. Put one specific line inside. "Thanks for the lift back from New Street" beats a paragraph about heritage.

You see the preview before you pay. Other UK card sites are fine for tartan borders and stock jokes about the weather. When the job is their face in a designed style, with clear print specs, Ottermagic is the calmer shop.

Ready when you are

Make a personalised card for someone in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, London, or with an Irish family name you actually say at the table. Upload a photo, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, and keep the preview that looks like them. Print a UK A5 330gsm gloss card with an envelope, order a poster or canvas, or take the e-card when post will miss. Start at Ottermagic.com.

FAQ

Do you post personalised cards to Scotland and Wales?

The UK A5 path is printed to order in the UK and posted with Royal Mail, typically around 3–5 working days. Scotland and Wales are part of that UK post offer. Confirm the live estimate at checkout.

How do I send a card to family in Ireland?

Northern Ireland is a UK address, so the printed A5 goes there with Royal Mail in around 3–5 working days. For the Republic of Ireland, the e-card reaches them the moment you pay. For a printed card to a Republic of Ireland address, email support@ottermagic.com.

Is this a St Patrick's Day or Burns Night card shop?

No. Those occasions can use the same Style Swap or Face Swap tools if you want a photo card then.

What if I only have a name, not a photo?

Use Text Swap. If a photo turns up later, Style Swap or Face Swap will usually make a more keepable front.

I live in London and need it tonight.

Choose the e-card: a hi-res, watermark-free download after payment. Printed A5 is not a same-day London courier product.
