E-cards versus a digital card made from your own photo

If you need a greeting to arrive today, or you are sending to someone whose letterbox is in another country, you are choosing between two different objects. Classic e-card sites send a designed animation or invitation from their library. Ottermagic’s e-card is a hi-res, watermark-free download of your photo, restyled with Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, which you then send by message or email. For UK and US addresses you can still order the printed A5 as well.

The longer print-versus-file comparison is digital download vs printed A5 card. This page is for people comparing Jacquie Lawson, Paperless Post, Blue Mountain, Punchbowl, and a photo-to-art file they actually own.

Bottom line: pick Ottermagic when the front should be them. Pick a library e-card site when you want their animation, music, or invitation tools. Confirm prices, memberships, and features on their sites; those change.

What the Ottermagic e-card actually is

On Ottermagic you upload a photo, run Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap onto a template, preview until it feels like them, then pay. The storefront option labelled E-card is a hi-res, watermark-free download of that artwork. You send it yourself: WhatsApp, iMessage, email, a shared drive, whatever you already use. There is no RSVP inbox attached, and no soundtrack playing when they open the file.

The same artwork can be a printed A5: 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, blank inside or printed message, printed to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail to UK addresses in around 3–5 working days or sent by airmail to US addresses in around 2–3 weeks, recyclable stock and water-based inks. Posters and canvas are available; check Ottermagic.com for live wall-art details.

Live styles: Brick, Chibi, Emoji, Anime, Watercolour, Caricature, Cartoon, Classic Cartoon, Action Figure, Clay 3D, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Royal Portrait, Pixel Art, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card, Photobooth, Sketch, Lucky Leprechaun.

Text Swap sits alongside if you only have a name. Lookalikey and similar catalogues can lead on deep text-led browsing. When you have a photo, the swap is the point.

You see a preview before you pay. That is the confidence step. For how previewing works, can you preview an AI personalised card.

Where Jacquie Lawson fits

Jacquie Lawson’s public site (jacquielawson.com) presents itself as illustrated, animated e-cards: hand-drawn artwork, motion, and music, with a membership for sending from their library. Their own help pages describe classic e-cards as short animated pieces, and note cards as a lighter animation with more room for a long message. That is a designed-entertainment send. You are choosing their art, then adding your words.

If Auntie already loves those cottage animations, keep sending them. If you want her actual face as Watercolour, you are on Ottermagic. Check jacquielawson.com for current membership prices and what a given card includes.

Where Blue Mountain fits

Blue Mountain (bluemountain.com) is a large subscription e-card library: animated greetings, songs, SmashUp-style personalisation, sending by email, text, or link, with an option to print at home. Their site also talks about bundling access with Jacquie Lawson. That is a catalogue-and-membership job. Check bluemountain.com for current membership terms and what you can attach to a card. Do not treat a homepage price as a promise; read it on their checkout.

Ottermagic is the other direction. You start with the photo. You pay for the artwork you previewed, as an e-card file and, if you want, a printed A5.

Where Paperless Post fits

Paperless Post (paperlesspost.com) frames itself as online invitations and cards: thousands of templates, customisation, sending by email, text, or link, RSVP tracking, and event tools. They also advertise printed wedding invitations in partnership with another paper brand. Check paperlesspost.com for holiday cards, coins or subscription language, and anything they currently print.

If you are sending a December party suite and you want that invitation-platform feel, Paperless Post is in its element. If you want a keepable portrait of your sister as Sketch, or an A5 in an envelope, you are on Ottermagic. The Ottermagic e-card is a download of your swap artwork, not an RSVP inbox.

Where Punchbowl fits

Punchbowl (punchbowl.com) is known for digital invitations with guest lists and RSVPs, and for template e-cards you can send by email or text. Some designs take a photo; some extras sit behind a subscription. Check punchbowl.com (and their help centre) for what is free, what is paid, and how sending works today.

That is a party-admin path. Ottermagic does not track RSVPs. It makes the likeness.

US readers

For US addresses, the US shop sends the printed A5 by airmail in around 2–3 weeks. If the day is sooner, use the e-card: download the file, send it, print it on your own printer if you want paper on the table. Personalized spelling on the inside or in your covering note is fine.

Classic US e-card libraries (Blue Mountain, Punchbowl, and similar) remain useful if you want their animations or invite tools. For a digital greeting card download that is actually your photo, start on Ottermagic.

Ready when you are

If the card should look like them, upload a photo, try Style Swap, Face Swap, or Pet Swap, and take the e-card when you need it there today. Print the A5 when you want an envelope too. Start at Ottermagic.com. If you wanted an animated cottage or an RSVP link, those other sites still exist; check them, then come back if the job was a likeness all along.
