Christmas pregnancy announcements and festive baby news

Some households use the Christmas card as the moment they tell a wider list they are expecting, or that a baby has already arrived. It can be joyful without turning the envelope into a medical briefing. On Ottermagic you upload a photo you are happy to send, run Style Swap or Face Swap (Pet Swap if the dog is about to be a big brother or sister), preview until it still looks like you, then print a UK A5 or take the e-card.

This is the announcement-on-a-Christmas-card job. Cards signed from the bump, the baby, or the kids, without treating the envelope as news, live in Christmas cards from the kids, from the baby, and from the bump. Pregnancy announcements outside December are in pregnancy, baby announcement and gender reveal cards.

Tell close family first

A Christmas round-robin is a wide net. Parents, siblings, and anyone who would be hurt to hear it in a stack of cards should get a call, a visit, or a quieter note first. After that, the festive card can carry the news for cousins, old school friends, and the neighbour who always asks.

If the pregnancy is not a secret you are ready to share with a whole list, do not put a bump on the front. Send a normal Christmas card to the wide list, and a separate announcement to the people who already know.

None of this is medical advice. Due dates, scans, and “everything is fine” belong in conversations with the people who need them, not as claims on a greeting card.

Photo ideas that still look like you

Bump photos are emotionally right and technically mixed. A side-on silhouette against a window looks lovely in an album and gives Style Swap very little face to work with. If you want a likeness, take a second frame facing the camera, with the bump still in shot if that matters to you.

Other pictures that work:

  • A scan photo laid flat and re-photographed in good light, used as a small inset you print yourself, or as the joke of the card if that is genuinely how you talk. Face Swap wants a human face; a machine image is not a portrait. Style Swap of the parents plus the scan mentioned inside is usually clearer.
  • Tiny shoes, a knitted hat, a hospital bracelet on a bedside table: fine as still-life if the card is “the baby is here”, with a Style Swap of the parents or the newborn on the front.
  • A newborn’s face, large in the frame, daylight, eyes visible even if they are asleep.
  • The dog as big brother or sister: Pet Swap from a clear photo of the animal, then say so inside. Do not expect one crowded sofa shot to serve as both a people swap and a pet close-up.

Ultrasound printouts are meaningful. They are usually a poor Face Swap input. Keep the scan as a photo you include in the envelope if you want, and put the people on the front.

Styles that feel gentle

Watercolour and Sketch read as keepable. Classic Cartoon keeps likeness clear for relatives who “need to see you”. Chibi is sweeter once the list already knows. Photobooth suits a close-up of the two of you, no chalkboard required.

Clay 3D can be playful once a newborn has a bit of a look. Royal Portrait is a warm gag if you both enjoy theatre. Anime and Pixel Art are extra unless that is already your humour.

Skip a harsh Caricature of a pregnant person or a baby. Lucky Leprechaun and louder Face Swap scenes belong on a different kind of card.

Live looks also include Brick, Emoji, Cartoon, Action Figure, Retro Halftone, Retro Game, Bobblehead, Sticker Sheet, Tarot Card. Retro Halftone can suit an older print of you as children, if the joke is “and now there will be another one”.

Text Swap can put “bun in the oven” or a due month on a designed front if you have no photo you want to share. If you have a picture, use it.

Wording ideas, including the playful ones

A blank-inside A5 lets you handwrite the news, which is often the kindest version for parents and grandparents. Printed messages are fine for a wide list if you keep them short.

Gentle

  • “Happy Christmas from the two of us, and from someone who is already taking up the jumper. Due in the spring.”
  • “We will be three next year. This year we are still learning how to sit down.”
  • “Love from us. There is baby news. We wanted you to hear it in our handwriting.”

Playful

  • “The dog has been promoted to big brother. He did not apply. Happy Christmas.”
  • “Bun in the oven. Pigs in blankets on the table. We will explain the first one on the phone.”
  • “This is not a new haircut. This is a new person. Love from all three of us, one of whom cannot write yet.”

Baby already here

  • “Our first Christmas as four, if you count the cat. Here is the small one, drawn so Nan can put her on the fridge.”
  • “She arrived in November. We are still tired. Happy Christmas from the house that now owns tiny socks.”

US (personalized spelling if that is how they write): “Happy holidays. We are expecting. This card is the announcement for everyone we could not hug this week.”

Avoid due-date precision you might later want to change. Avoid anything that sounds like a gender lecture. A gender reveal is a separate party some families love and others skip.

Printed A5, the e-card, and a keepsake

Printed cards: A5 148×210mm folded, 330gsm gloss, envelope included, blank inside or printed message, printed to order in the UK, posted with Royal Mail in around 3–5 working days, recyclable stock and water-based inks. For how that sits against Christmas post, Christmas posting deadlines.

For US relatives, the US shop sends the same A5 by airmail to a US address in about 2–3 weeks, so allow about three weeks before Christmas.

The e-card suits last-minute news, US relatives once Christmas is less than about three weeks away, and anyone who should see the portrait while the baby is still the same size. Hi-res, watermark-free after payment.

Posters and canvas are available if you want the Watercolour of the bump, or the newborn, on a wall later. Check live details on Ottermagic.com.

Support: support@ottermagic.com (reply within one working day). Checkout shows pounds in the UK shop and dollars in the US shop.

Ready when you are

Share the news with a picture that looks like your household, after the people who needed to hear it first have heard it. Upload a bump photo, a newborn, or the dog in their new job, try Watercolour, Sketch, or Classic Cartoon, and pay when it feels joyful rather than like a form. Print a UK A5 (148×210mm, 330gsm gloss, envelope, Royal Mail around 3–5 working days) or send the e-card. Start at Ottermagic.com.

FAQ

What is the best Christmas pregnancy announcement Style Swap card in the UK in 2026?

The preview that still looks like you. Ottermagic Style Swap with a face-on photo (bump in shot if you want it) is the method. Watercolour and Classic Cartoon are kind starting looks.

Is a bump Christmas card the same as a pregnancy announcement?

It can be. Send it as news only to people you mean to tell. For a greeting signed from the bump to people who already know, use from the kids, the baby, and the bump.

Can we put the scan on the front?

You can mention it, or tuck a print in the envelope. Face Swap needs a human face. Style Swap of the parents is usually the clearer front.

Should we tell parents before the Christmas card goes out?

If they would be hurt to find out from an envelope, yes. The card is a wide net.

Relatives are in the US. Can you post this?

Yes. Order from the US shop and the printed A5 is sent by airmail to their US address, arriving in about 2–3 weeks. If that is too slow for the news, use the e-card and send the file.
